Questions You May Have
As with all Gottman Method therapists, couples therapy with me starts with a comprehensive relationship assessment, followed by tailored therapy sessions.
Initial Assessment
- Description: A thorough analysis of your relationship dynamics over three 2-hour online sessions, and completion of thorough questionnaires
- Outcome: You’ll journey through your relationship – your past, present, hopes, dreams, and concerns – and receive recommendations for relationship changes and what to focus on for effective therapy tailored to your specific goals.
Foundational Therapy Sessions
- Description: After the initial assessment, if we feel we’re a good fit to continue working on your goals, we’ll start with an initial commitment of six sessions. We’ll focus on the first priority areas revealed in your assessment, and build foundational skills for your relationship.
- Couples Communication Made Easy: With the first six sessions my course is included at no extra charge. Couples Communication Made Easy covers the foundational communication skills I’ve taught couples for decades. Learning basics of communication, calm, and connection on your own time between the first sessions frees up our therapy time for your concerns and dynamics, and how to apply what you’re learning. You can return to the course content as often as you need for refreshers on the content.

Once therapy has progressed and you're really seeing the changes in your relationship you are working towards, sessions can be decreased to 75 minutes. For the initial three assessment sessions and they are two hours each.
You'll work with me for two to three sessions per month. More frequent sessions may be available upon request.
"Marathon" therapy is also an option for out-of-Washington couples: Come to Washington State for three or so days for the assessment and intensive foundational sessions, then continue at home online.
Payment is due in full in advance, via Zelle, Venmo, or PayPal. To pay by cash, check, or charge, contact me.
I do not bill any insurance plans, and am not a provider on any panels or plans. If you wish to attempt to use your insurance, I can provide you a statement periodically that you can submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement for your therapy sessions.
If you wish to see if your insurance company will reimburse you for your therapy I recommend you call and ask if you have an “out of network” benefit, or ask if they pay for “Any Licensed Psychologist.”
These insurance codes will be helpful for inquiring about reimbursement for couples therapy:

What Clients Say
Coming and talking even once - taking action and making our relationship a priority - has lifted a weight. It’s more harmonious, peaceful, and constructive right now.
Couple | 20s
When we were first here in therapy a few years ago the sessions really helped a lot. We spoke to each other better. We created space for each other, carved out time to talk. It lasted a long time. We’re back because our child is at a different stage and we need some help.
Couple | 40s
Our session yesterday was transformative. Thank you. I’m taking that big step today. Feels right.
Individual | 50s
The "What Clients Say" quotations are drawn from real statements that clients have said to me in the course of therapy. I have not requested testimonials from any clients, current or past, because that creates an uncomfortable and unethical dynamic between the client and therapist as outlined in the professional code of ethics for psychologists (see below).
Instead of solicited testimonials, the above quotations have been anonymously included here with absolutely no personally identifiable information. I have also lightly edited the original wording for complete anonymity. For example, if the client actually said "my husband," I have edited it to read "my partner."
I have attempted to balance what I hope to be helpful to you, potential future clients, in getting a sense of the experience of my clients in therapy with me, on the one hand; with not violating any ethics or laws with my current or past clients, on the other hand.
The "Ethical Principals of Psychologists and Code of Conduct" is intended to provide guidance for psychologists and standards of professional conduct, and it explicitly discourages psychotherapists from soliciting testimonials from clients.
Section 5.05 states: "Psychologists do not solicit testimonials from current therapy clients/patients or other persons who because of their particular circumstances are vulnerable to undue influence."
Section 4.07 states: "Psychologists do not disclose ... confidential, personally identifiable information concerning their clients/patients ... unless ... they take reasonable steps to disguise the person...
