What Clients Say
Coming and talking even once - taking action and making our relationship a priority - has lifted a weight. It’s more harmonious, peaceful, and constructive right now.
Couple | 20s
When we were first here in therapy a few years ago the sessions really helped a lot. We spoke to each other better. We created space for each other, carved out time to talk. It lasted a long time. We’re back because our child is at a different stage and we need some help.
Couple | 40s
Our session yesterday was transformative. Thank you. I’m taking that big step today. Feels right.
Individual | 50s
The "What Clients Say" quotations are drawn from real statements that clients have said to me in the course of therapy. I have not requested testimonials from any clients, current or past, because that creates an uncomfortable and unethical dynamic between the client and therapist as outlined in the professional code of ethics for psychologists (see below).
Instead of solicited testimonials, the above quotations have been anonymously included here with absolutely no personally identifiable information. I have also lightly edited the original wording for complete anonymity. For example, if the client actually said "my husband," I have edited it to read "my partner."
I have attempted to balance what I hope to be helpful to you, potential future clients, in getting a sense of the experience of my clients in therapy with me, on the one hand; with not violating any ethics or laws with my current or past clients, on the other hand.
The "Ethical Principals of Psychologists and Code of Conduct" is intended to provide guidance for psychologists and standards of professional conduct, and it explicitly discourages psychotherapists from soliciting testimonials from clients.
Section 5.05 states: "Psychologists do not solicit testimonials from current therapy clients/patients or other persons who because of their particular circumstances are vulnerable to undue influence."
Section 4.07 states: "Psychologists do not disclose ... confidential, personally identifiable information concerning their clients/patients ... unless ... they take reasonable steps to disguise the person...
Questions You May Have
Questions You May Have
To start out, weekly, or occasionally even twice per week, is best. You want to learn and build on skills, and explore and understand issues, without losing the thread of what you're working on. After a while clients sometimes space sessions every other week, and eventually even every three to four weeks or more.
Questions You May Have
Therapy sessions are based on a 50-minute “hour.”
Individual therapy is usually one 50-minute session, but can be a session and a half (75 minutes) or longer.
Couples therapy is almost always in double sessions (100 minutes, or, an hour and forty mintues). Once therapy has progressed and you're really seeing the changes in your relationship you are working towards, sessions can be decreased to single sessions, or a session and a half (75 minutes). For the initial three assessment sessions and first several couples therapy sessions, I work in double sessions only.
Payment is due in full at the start of each session, in cash or a check.
I do not bill any insurance plans, and am not a provider on any panels or plans that I am aware of. If you wish to attempt to use your insurance, I can provide you a statement periodically that you can submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement for your therapy sessions.
If you wish to see if your insurance company will reimburse you for your therapy I recommend you call and ask if you have an “out of network” benefit, or ask if they pay for “Any Licensed Psychologist.”
These insurance codes will be helpful for inquiring about reimbursement for couples therapy:
- CPT Code: 90847
- Diagnosis Code: Z63.0
- Units per day: 2
If your insurance company says that they will reimburse you, I encourage you to request this in writing.
Questions You May Have
To explore working with me in therapy, the next step is talking by phone for about ten minutes or so. This will give us a chance to see if we're a good fit for each other.
